In the foreground is the city of Almada, on the south side of the Tagus river. The city of Lisbon in the middle background is situated on the north side of the Tagus River. At the left, on the southern bank of the river, is "The Sanctuary of Christ the King", a Catholic monument and shrine, reminiscent of the Rio de Janeiro statue. In the far background is the Vasco da Gama bridge, crossing a wide part of the Tagus River.

The coast of the 145 km sq Sintra Park is the westernmost part of continental Europe. 12 km inland from the coast, the park boundary touches the town of Sintra.
